The King’s Highway

Young Adult Fiction

Book One

A mysterious dead man directs the small band on their journey to a much safer corridor he dubs The King’s Highway.

Airplanes are falling out of the sky, and all things electric rendered useless after a mysterious flash. It tests the grit of fifteen-year-old Jackson Allison when the care and safety of his younger siblings fall solely to him.

No one knows for sure what’s happened, but danger lurks. A fierce determination to keep his thirteen-year-old sister McKenzie and nine-year-old brother Cooper safe propels the high school freshman to leave their Irving home in the shadow of the DFW Airport for their grandparents’ farm a hundred-plus miles northeast.
Thrust into a lawless, chaotic world, he’s guided by an ever-changing cryptic note that leads his growing troupe along the King’s Highway. Bullies, Russians, wild animals, gang-bangers, and kidnappers thwart their progress while a lack of drinkable water and food is a constant concern. Will he ever get his people to safety in the Red River Valley in far Northeast Texas?

The King’s Highway is a C. S. Lewis-type story, using symbolisms of the Bible. I loved the book! Loved the characters’ personalities! It held my interest, and I didn’t want to proof, just to read for enjoyment. It has just enough building to the climaxes with their adventure along the King’s Highway, with added depth that keeps the reader pondering about God, Jesus, and angels.

An unexplained event has turned out the lights and the children are at home by themselves. This story tells the dangers that come next and how they survive. Great story line as I think this is every parent’s nightmare. Wonderful details and so many great characters I just couldn’t put it down. So many dangers lurked on every corner. Thank goodness they had God watching and guiding them as they go along. I loved how it ended, but yet it left you wanting to know more. Perfect! This is a great book for early teens through adults. A great great read!

I loved this book so much that I lost sleep reading it. A tale of how kids left alone following an EMP. It’s all about their trek on foot getting to their grandparents and how their faith and/or lack of affects their journey. One of this author’s best!

The King’s Highway was especially interesting to me. I liked the interplay between all the characters, especially with the dog, Boggs. This is an exciting story of escape and danger that a handful of youth encounter on their journey home. Personalities clash and young love blossoms. Family members squabble, but honor and truth reign supreme. Hope prevails amidst horror and fear in this book of struggle and survival. It will appeal to youth and adults. My favorite parts are where the youth deal with supernatural beings.

Fantastic read. Reminded me of C.S. Lewis series. Good to read a book that doesn’t have to be censored before your grandkids read it. Where is book 2 of the series? To back a believer in Jesus Christ I will willingly pay Amazon’s price. So worth it.

I was not ready for it to end. I was intrigued with how the children proceeded, how the faith of Jackson is called into question and he has to do some thinking about his sister’s faith. But mostly just the tenacity of this band of kids and how they survive. I think this book would be interesting for kids 11 years through adults.
